Tax Refund

The consumption tax exemption system will be changed to a "refund system" from November 1, 2026.

The refund system is a mechanism in which duty-free shops sell goods at the tax-inclusive price, and after the tax-free purchaser confirms that they are taking the goods out of the country at customs upon departure, the amount equivalent to the consumption tax is refunded.

To qualify for tax exemption, you must present your passport to a tax exemption terminal (kiosk or electronic terminal) located at the airport or port upon departure within 90 days of purchasing the tax-exempt items, and undergo customs verification.

When undergoing customs inspection, you must have all the duty-free items you purchased in your possession. Therefore, you cannot complete the duty-free procedure at a terminal or similar facility after checking your baggage at the airport.

Please be sure to complete the duty-free procedure at a designated terminal before boarding.
Refunds are possible after the tax exemption process is completed.

Tax refund terminals are located in the general area (before departure), while refunds (cash) after customs confirmation are collected in the area after departure.
