Based on technical guidelines issued by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the standards for transporting portable electronic devices containing lithium batteries as checked baggage in the cargo hold of passenger aircraft have changed in Japan as well, effective July 1, 2017. Such devices must now be switched off completely and measures taken to prevent accidental operation and damage.
